Alaska Air Group is making a major push into luxury travel as it looks to attract more high-spending passengers. The company has announced what it calls its most significant investment in premium travel, introducing new luxury experiences across Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines.
The new offerings, Aurora for Alaska Airlines and Leihōkū for Hawaiian Airlines, are scheduled to launch beginning in 2028. Both concepts will combine premium onboard experiences with enhanced services before and after flights, including dedicated check-in, concierge assistance, upgraded dining and access to exclusive airport lounges.
New Luxury Suites
On Alaska Airlines’ international Boeing 787 Dreamliner fleet, Aurora will feature private lie-flat suites designed to provide greater comfort and privacy. The suites will include privacy doors, direct aisle access, upgraded dining and Starlink Wi-Fi.
Passengers using the Aurora experience will also have access to dedicated concierge services and a new Aurora Lounge at Seattle, giving the premium offering a more comprehensive focus beyond the aircraft cabin.
Aurora is also planned for select transcontinental flights operated by Boeing 737-10 MAX aircraft beginning in 2028. This will allow Alaska to extend its premium strategy beyond its international long-haul network.
Premium Economy Expansion
Alongside the luxury suites, Alaska Air Group is introducing Premium Reserve, a new premium economy cabin aimed at travelers seeking additional comfort without choosing the highest-end option.
Premium Reserve will feature wider seats, additional legroom and upgraded amenities. The cabin is scheduled to debut in 2028 on Alaska Airlines’ Boeing 787 Dreamliners and selected Boeing 737-10 MAX aircraft. It will also be introduced on Hawaiian Airlines’ Airbus A330 fleet.
The expansion reflects a wider industry trend as airlines invest heavily in premium cabins, airport lounges and enhanced services to capture passengers willing to spend more on air travel.
Competing for Premium Travelers
Alaska Air Group CEO Ben Minicucci said the company views premium travel as more than simply providing a better seat. The strategy is designed to improve the customer experience from booking through arrival.
With Aurora, Leihōkū and Premium Reserve, Alaska Air Group is expanding its premium product across multiple aircraft types and both airline brands. The rollout will begin in 2028, positioning the group to compete more directly for travelers seeking greater privacy, comfort and personalized service.
