DAMAC Digital, a global digital infrastructure provider, and Vodafone Türkiye have inaugurated the first phase of a major data center in Izmir, positioning the facility as the largest of its kind in Türkiye’s Aegean Region. Developed with an initial investment of approximately US$100 million, the facility will begin operations with 4 MW of capacity, with plans to scale up to 20 MW as demand for digital infrastructure grows.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Türkiye’s Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, Vodafone Türkiye CEO Engin Aksoy, and senior executives from DAMAC Digital. The facility forms part of a long-term strategic partnership between the two companies, under which total investment is expected to reach approximately US$300 million.
Designed for AI and Next-Generation Workloads
Spanning 7,500 sq m, the Izmir Data Center can accommodate more than 650 cabinets. Its scalable architecture has been designed to support increasingly demanding workloads, including artificial intelligence, cloud computing and data-intensive applications.
The infrastructure is also equipped to support graphics processing unit (GPU) technologies, enabling businesses to deploy both conventional AI applications and generative AI models securely and at scale. The facility is expected to strengthen Vodafone Türkiye’s infrastructure while supporting the country’s growing requirements for cloud services, data processing and AI capabilities.

Strategic Connectivity Advantage
Izmir’s strategic geographic position further strengthens the facility’s significance. Located close to submarine cable landing stations connecting Europe, Africa and Asia, the data center benefits from access to critical international connectivity routes.
Vodafone Türkiye CEO Engin Aksoy said the facility, delivered in just 18 months, demonstrates the company’s long-term commitment to Türkiye’s digital transformation. Beyond expanding infrastructure capacity, the project is expected to contribute to the country’s cloud capabilities and data sovereignty while supporting the rising data processing and AI requirements of enterprises.
With its combination of scalable capacity, AI-ready infrastructure and strategic connectivity, the Izmir Data Center is poised to reinforce Izmir’s emergence as an important digital infrastructure and connectivity hub for Türkiye and the wider Mediterranean region.
