Bank of America Strengthens Infrastructure Team

Bank of America is expanding its Australian infrastructure advisory business by hiring a managing director from Lazard’s New York office. Li Wynn Tan is set to join the bank as co-head of its Australian power, utilities and infrastructure advisory practice, adding international experience to a team focused on some of the region’s most significant infrastructure and energy transactions.

Tan will relocate to Melbourne in December, marking a return to Australia after 12 years working in the United States. His appointment reflects the continued importance of experienced investment banking professionals as financial institutions compete for talent and advisory mandates across the power, utilities and infrastructure sectors.

Return to Australia

Tan began his financial services career in Australia with Credit Suisse before moving to the United States. During his 12-year stint in the country, he built experience at several major financial institutions, including Goldman Sachs and Lazard.

Most recently, Tan served as a managing director at Lazard in New York. His move to Bank of America will now bring that international transaction experience back to the Australian market, where demand for advice on infrastructure and energy investments continues to evolve.

His relocation to Melbourne also represents a return to his home country after more than a decade overseas.

Focus on Power and Infrastructure

At Bank of America, Tan will share leadership of the Australian power, utilities and infrastructure advisory business. The role places him within a sector that encompasses essential assets and services, including electricity generation and networks, utilities, transport infrastructure and other large-scale projects.

Infrastructure investment has become increasingly important as economies address energy transition requirements, growing electricity demand and the need to modernize aging assets. For investment banks, these developments create opportunities to advise governments, corporations, infrastructure owners and investors on acquisitions, capital raising, project development and strategic transactions.

Tan’s experience across Australia and the United States could provide Bank of America with additional international perspective as it pursues opportunities in the sector.

His appointment also underscores the movement of senior banking talent across major financial centers. After spending 12 years building his career in the US, Tan is returning to Melbourne to take on a leadership role at Bank of America, combining his Australian market background with experience gained at Goldman Sachs and Lazard.
